ARBIKIE RAISES A GLASS TO ARBROATH FC
Arbikie Highland Estate has teamed up with Arbroath Football Club to help celebrate the 130th Anniversary of Arbroath’s 36-0 World Record win over Aberdeen Bon Accord in 1885.
Arbikie has created a special vodka and gin to celebrate the occasion. Kirsty Black, Master Distiller at Arbikie commented:
“We were keen to create a one off version of our farm to bottle vodka and gin. Both drinks embody the Angus environment. With the vodka we have used our preferred three potato varieties but have increased the percentage of King Edwards as it is one of the oldest varieties still grown commercially For the gin I was keen to pay homage to Arbroath, and their famous smokies, by capturing the elements of sea and smoke in the gin – to our selection of Angus botanicals we also added peat smoked sea salt from Hebridean Sea Salt prior to distillation which adds a hint of smoke and salty minerality to the final gin. I hope the drinks go down a storm with not only Arbroath fans but the discerning vodka and gin drinkers out there!”
The connection between Arbikie Highland Estate and Arbroath FC is based on more than just geography. Ian Stirling the uncle of John, Iain and David was a club captain of Arbroath before eventually becoming chairman.
John Stirling, Director of Arbikie Highland Estate commented:
“We are a new distillery and we’ve already developed award-winning vodka and gin. We felt a one-off limited edition of 3600 bottles was the ideal way to help the club celebrate – it’s a perfect association for us.”
Arbroath Chairman, John Christison, added: “It’s great that a new company has come in to celebrate with us, one of the oldest “companies” left in Arbroath. It really is a tie-up between old and new.”
This would make a perfect birthday or Christmas gift for any football fan out there or a discerning vodka or gin drinker. You can purchase the bottles direct online with free delivery at www.arbikie.com.
